The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally runs August 6 through 15, 2027, its 87th year. Founded in 1938 by a group of Indian Motorcycle riders for stunts and races, it has grown into the largest motorcycle rally in the world. More than 500,000 visitors typically descend on Sturgis, a town of roughly 7,000 residents in South Dakota's northern Black Hills, for the 10-day event. Attendance peaked at 739,000 for the 75th anniversary in 2015.
Live music runs across more than 20 stages in Sturgis and neighboring towns throughout the rally. Main Street becomes the center of the action, with vendor villages, stunt shows, and constant motorcycle traffic. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame stays open year-round for anyone visiting outside rally week. Nearby Deadwood, Spearfish, and Rapid City all draw overflow crowds and host their own satellite events.
