The rally originally filled downtown Fayetteville's Dickson Street before outgrowing it and shifting its center of gravity to Rogers and Eureka Springs. Founded in 2011, AIMExpo exists to do for the motorcycle and powersports industry what SEMA does for cars: bring manufacturers, dealers, and media into one room before next year's lineup hits showroom floors. Unlike the rallies on this list, it's built around industry access and product launches rather than group rides, and it's worth noting the host city has moved in recent years, so the location is the one detail on this list most likely to need a double-check closer to the date.
7. Daytona Bike Week (Daytona Beach, FL)

Bike Week began as a single race, not a festival: on January 24, 1937, 45 riders lined up for the inaugural Daytona 200 on a 3.2-mile beach-and-highway course, with Ed Kretz taking the win on an Indian. The race ran until World War II forced its cancellation in 1942, but riders kept showing up informally anyway, and when the race returned in 1947 the surrounding week of activity had already become the main event. A local group of riding friends started the event in 1997 on the belief that the Valley had the best riding conditions in the country for a rally, and organizer Lisa Cyr's team has built it into a five-day, single-venue event with a real economic footprint: a 2024 study put its impact on Scottsdale alone at $15.2 million. 10. Mayhem Motorcycle Rally (Bullhead City, AZ)

The original Laughlin River Run was founded in 1983 by Harley-Davidson dealer Dale Marschke with just 426 riders, and grew into a Top-5 national rally with roughly 70,000 attendees at its peak in 2005 before a deadly 2002 brawl between rival motorcycle clubs at a nearby casino cast a long shadow over it. When the River Run didn't return post-pandemic, Mayhem stepped into the gap, running the same tri-state desert territory (Bullhead City, Laughlin, and Oatman via old Route 66) with poker runs, a tattoo convention, and the same Colorado River backdrop that made the original a destination rally.

Dutcher built Americade around a deliberately different pitch than Sturgis or Daytona: touring, not spectacle. The Associated Press once described it as "about as peaceful as a motorcycle rally can be... and certainly no Sturgis," and the New York Times credited it with doing "more for the image of motorcyclists than any other event." Dutcher won the AMA's MVP Award in 1998 and its Hazle-Kolb Brighter Image Award in 2003 for exactly that reputation-building work. Thunder Beach started in 1999 as "The Bike & Beach Bash," a small gathering out of the Tiki Bar at the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort, before growing into a biannual rally that now runs every spring and fall and calls itself "The Most Biker Friendly Free Rally in the United States." 13. Laconia Motorcycle Week (Laconia, NH)

What's now Laconia Motorcycle Week began as a Gypsy tour that drew early motorcyclists from New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Montreal to the New Hampshire Lakes Region. The event's signature race, now called the Loudon Classic, dates to at least 1938, when Indian rider Ed Kretz (the same rider who won the first Daytona 200) took the inaugural 200-mile national championship there. The circuit converted from dirt to a fully paved course in 1940, and the rally itself has run continuously since, centered on Weirs Beach with racing, swap meets, and guided rides around Lake Winnipesaukee.
14. AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days (Lexington, OH)

Held at Mid-Ohio partly because of its proximity to AMA headquarters and the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, the event is built as the flagship celebration of vintage motorcycling in the US: road racing pairs hand-shifted pre-war machines against modern non-current superbikes on the same 2.4-mile circuit, alongside motocross, hare scrambles, flat track, and trials. The swap meet spans nearly 80 acres of the property, and proceeds support the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, the nonprofit behind the Hall of Fame.

Sturgis began as a small gathering built around stunts and races, and for decades ran as a seven-day event before the city expanded it to its current ten-day format in 2016. It's grown into a rally that transforms a town of roughly 7,000 residents into one of the largest annual gatherings in the country, peaking at an estimated 739,000 attendees for its 75th anniversary in 2015. Main Street becomes a solid line of chrome for the full ten days, but as much of the actual experience happens on the Black Hills roads surrounding the town as it does downtown.
Planning Your Rally Season
Hitting even a handful of these in a single year takes real planning. Rallies cluster tightly in spring (Daytona, Arizona Bike Week, Donnie Smith all landing within five weeks of each other) and the calendar opens back up in summer, when Sturgis stands alone in August.
